Manchester United injury update: Leny Yoro, Rasmus Hojlund and Tyrell Malacia latest news and return dates

Manchester United are hoping to strengthen in the coming weeks thanks to the return of stars.

The pressure is already on Erik ten Hag after defeats to Brighton and Liverpool before the international break, and it is crucial that a busy fixture schedule ahead brings positive results and performances.

Players like Leny Yoro, Rasmus Hojlund and Luke Shaw have not played at all this season, while Tyrell Malacia has not played since the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

Mason Mount, meanwhile, has suffered more frustration in a United shirt after picking up an injury in that defeat to Brighton last month.

Here’s your latest Man Utd injury news and return dates…

Leny Yoro

Yoro’s start at Old Trafford was slow, having suffered a foot injury against Arsenal in pre-season which has kept him sidelined since.

The operation was successful and it was reported at the time that Yoro would be out for three months. Recent reports suggest that the 18-year-old is now walking without crutches, which is welcome news as he speeds up his recovery.

Potential return date: November 2024

Rasmus Hojlund

Hojlund was also injured in that game against Arsenal in the United States this summer, with a hamstring problem.

The forward has yet to play this season but Erik ten Hag suggested a return was not far off when asked for an update ahead of the international break.

“After the international break, but when after the international break?” said the United boss. “We’ll see how he goes during the international break to get him ready for the game. It’ll take a while before he’s ready. He needs to get back fit.”

Tyrell Malacia

Malacia has been out for more than a year, since undergoing knee surgery last summer.

The left-back missed the entirety of the following season and played no part in pre-season this time around, but was named in United’s squad for the Europa League in a sign he could be close to putting his injury nightmare behind him.

Speaking last month, Ten Hag said: “He’s not that far away, but he’s now in a situation of progress.

“In a relatively short time he could train with the team again and then play with the team. I think that would be possible in two months.”

Potential return date: October/November 2024

Luke Shaw

A calf injury has kept Shaw sidelined in recent weeks as he waits to make his first appearance of the season.

The left-back missed the final months of last season for United, before returning in time to feature for England at Euro 2024. It then emerged that Shaw had picked up a new problem just days before the new campaign.

Assuming there are no setbacks in his recovery, Shaw could be in contention to face his former side Southampton after the international break.

Mount Mason

After starting the Community Shield and United’s first two Premier League games, Mount suffered a “minor muscle injury” in the defeat to Brighton.

The midfielder posted on social media: “It looks like I’ll be out for a few games. Before and during pre-season I’ve been working hard to get my fitness back to where it needs to be and I’ve been feeling refreshed, sharp and ready. “I wanted you to hear straight from my mouth how frustrated I am, as I suspect you are too.”

It has been reported that Mount could be out for up to five weeks, meaning he is set to miss the start of the Europa League campaign later this month.

Potential return date: October 2024

Victor Lindelof

Lindelof has not played since a pre-season clash against Liverpool in the summer.

While it was initially thought to be a minor toe problem, the defender was pictured on crutches after the first game of the season.

Lindelof was not in the squad for the defeat to Liverpool before the international break but could make his return to action later this month.

Potential return date: September 2024
